Rapper Jay-Z and Block CEO Jack Dorsey are creating a “Bitcoin Academy” in his hometown of Brooklyn.
“Our goal is to give people the tools to become independent themselves, and then to teach that to their immediate community.”
Classes will be held online and in a real classroom in the Marcy Houses neighborhood of Brooklyn. Training will start at the end of June, and classes will be free for anyone to attend. They will start with simple topics: the concept of money, the concept of blockchain, and so on.
Interestingly, the participants of the course will get a symbolic amount of BTC to learn how to work with bitcoins in practice. Crypto training will be funded by Jack Dorsey.
The course lasts until early September for 2 classes a week. And the academy has partnered with educational platforms Crypto Blockchain Plug and Black Bitcoin Billionaire.
This isn’t Jay-Z and Dorsey’s first collaboration. Last year, Dorsey’s company Block did work on the music platform Tidal. They helped the rapper launch NFT trading there. Dorsey and Jay-Z regularly invest in promising crypto startups, and even created a joint fund to promote bitcoin in Africa and India.
